Haier Europe Reinforces Commitment to Sustainability with 2023 Progress Highlights
Haier Europe published its 2023 Sustainability Report, showcasing significant achievements in reducing environmental footprint and enhancing operational efficiency. The report highlights Haier Europe’s strategic investments in renewable energy, waste reduction, and innovations in sustainable production across its global facilities, marking an important step in its commitment to environmental stewardship.
In 2023, Haier Europe achieved a 96% waste recovery rate and expanded its renewable energy capacity, including major solar installations, with a 5.25 MWp solar power plant in Turkey and a 3.3 MW system in China. The company recently received the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC), confirming that 100% of the electricity used in its manufacturing and administrative operations in Turkey in 2024 is generated from renewable sources. These efforts support the company’s goal of sourcing 60% of its energy from renewable sources across all production facilities by 2025, in alignment with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
Haier Europe has continued to drive resource conservation within its operations, achieving a 60% reduction in water use across plants compared to 2020. This has been made possible by water recycling and reuse systems at the company’s facilities, supporting Haier Europe’s commitment to operational excellence.
“Haier Europe is deeply committed to sustainability principles, demonstrated by our substantial progress in renewable energy and waste reduction,” said Karim Bruneo, Corporate Communication and Sustainability Director. “Our investments in energy efficiency and circular innovations underscore our mission to drive sustainability across all levels of our operations, creating a lasting positive impact on our industry and the environment, in line with our Zero Distance philosophy.”
With a holistic approach to sustainability, Haier Europe is also committed to developing products that contribute to a more circular economy and support sustainable lifestyles. Currently, 100% of Haier-branded washing machines and Candy and Haier ovens offered on the market are A-Class, representing the most energy-efficient standards.
Driven by the company’s leadership in IoT and connectivity, Haier Europe also focuses on partnerships for sustainable consumption, enabling consumers to maximize efficiency when using smart appliances. Also, the hOn Smart Home ecosystem concept integrates connected appliances, energy management devices, complementary solutions and services, including product maintenance and international partnerships that create an interconnected home environment that combines efficiency, innovation and sustainability.
After the positive case in France, the company has further expanded its refurbishment capabilities at its Brugherio facility in Italy, where returned products are repaired and reintroduced to the market.
Haier Europe’s 2023 Sustainability Report outlines a clear path toward a sustainable future, driven by operational excellence, product innovation, and responsible resource management.
Recently, Haier Europe has also earned the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody Certification, which verifies that forest-based materials used in Haier Europe’s appliances, manufactured across facilities in Italy, Turkey, and China, are responsibly sourced. This certification reflects Haier’s dedication to protecting ecosystems and supporting communities dependent on forest resources.
