Haier supports projects to strive to achieve UK’s Close To Zero Energy Home

Haier, the world’s leading domestic appliance brand for the past 15 consecutive years, has been selected to provide the appliances for a two-storey close to zero energy house located in Sheffield.

Haier has supplied the full suite of energy efficient appliances across the entire house including to name a few the X Series 11 washer and heat pump dryer, the I Pro Shine Series 7 Dishwasher, Series 6 oven, hob and hood and small kitchen appliances including an air fryer, toaster, kettle and blender from the Haier I Master Series 5 range.

Steve Macdonald, Business Director at Haier UK & Ireland said, “Welcome to “Haier’s Smart Home Solution” in conjunction with Strata. It has taken us around 12 months to get to this stage. But we finally have a full Haier Smart House Solution with White Good / Small Kitchen Appliances, Heating and Energy Appliances which are controlled by one app, Haier’s hOn app, not multiple apps for multiple products.”

He explained that the aim is to push towards a “Zero Bills” solution. Mr MacDonald added, “This will be possible in this house in the summer with the PV and Battery Solution, in the winter time with the sun not shining as much the householder will be able to take advantage of cheap overnight tariffs for the Battery and Heating Water, so the aim is to massively reduce the energy bills in this house by >80% against the average.”

Mr Macdonald added, “Our latest Haier Gen 3 Air to Water Heat Pump, is being used in the house with a COP (coefficient of performance) of 1 to >5. This means that it only needs 1 KW of energy in delivering > 5 KW out to power the house and it can deliver >60’C of water.

“The Heat Pump is linked to our latest Haier 10 KW Battery / PV System and Water Heater, with PV Solution to provide energy to the house. It is stored in the Battery so that any excess electricity can be utilised to heat the water. All of this is linked and controlled via the hOn App.”

He explained that the heating will also be controlled by the “hOn” app. It will be controlled via a HEMS (Home Energy Management System), where scenarios can be added when using free (Solar/Battery Storage) or much cheaper electricity tariffs to power all appliances.

Haier will be working and monitoring the energy consumption with the buyer of the house, to evaluate the energy savings vs another similar “Strata Plot” and vs the Household Average.

He concluded, “In addition, all of our Haier White Goods in the Kitchen and Utility Room are the most energy efficient devices we have on the market, again controlled by the hOn app and scenario plans can be added to the app, so they automatically work when there is enough energy in the battery. This is another first for Haier, the world’s leading home appliance brand.”

Antony Peart, Director of Brand and Communications at Haier Europe, said, “We are delighted to have been selected to provide the appliances for this home that has so much potential to help consumers with the cost of living. Haier is committed to sustainability and energy-efficiency, and our appliances are designed to make savings for consumers in all aspects of their domestic lives be it washing, cooking, or cooling and heating all controlled by 1 x app. The “hOn” app is a HEMS (Home Energy Management System), where scenarios can be added when using free (Solar/Battery Storage) or much cheaper electricity tariffs to power all appliances. It is fantastic to be able to support a project of this kind that reflects our own mission to reduce our impact on the planet.”

This also follows on from Haier Smart Home UK being awarded its 2023 Terra Carta Seal. The Seal recognises global companies which are actively leading the charge to create a climate and Nature-positive future.

Also, in Liverpool, Haier unveiled an energy efficient house located on Liverpool’s waterfront which was in place during the recent Labour Party conference.

The steel-frame modular home had been built to a high specification by Wirral-based modular homes specialist Starship and will be reassembled as a prototype back at its Wirral Waters campus.

The company claims such houses could have an estimated heating, hot water, and lighting bills of £124 a year – or even zero. Starship is building similar family homes in Wirral including 13 in Wallasey. Company founder and chief executive Dave Dargan said the company hoped it would become the “new norm in housing” and available to “as many families as possible”.

The eco-house was built in a Wirral factory but erected on Liverpool’s waterfront as part of the city region’s Future Homes plan. Liverpool City Region Mayor Steve Rotheram has called the two-storey energy-conserving house “something the rest of the country could be looking enviously at”.
