Haier Europe achieves renewable energy milestone and sets new ambitious sustainability goals for 2030 in line with science

Haier Europe announces a significant milestone in its decarbonization journey: the achievement of its ambitious climate goal to source 60% of its energy from renewables by 2025. Building on this momentum, Haier Europe is now setting new, even more ambitious targets for 2030 approved by the Science Based Targets initiative: to reduce Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% and absolute Scope 3 emissions from the use of sold products by 42% by 2030 from a 2021 base year.

These new targets are aligned with the 1.5°C pathway and reflect Haier Europe’s ongoing commitment to decarbonization across its value chain.

Reaching our climate target for renewable energy is a testament to the determination and teamwork of everyone at Haier Europe. Setting new, more ambitious targets for 2030 in collaboration with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a significant step in our journey” – said Karim Bruneo, Corporate Communication and Sustainability Director at Haier Europe. “We are committed to making real progress—both in our operations and in the everyday lives of our consumers—by delivering solutions that make sustainable living accessible and meaningful for millions of households in line with our leading goal to be Europe Consumers’ First Smart Living Choice in a Sustainable Home Ecosystem.”

This climate milestone is underpinned by the comprehensive progress detailed in the newly released 2024 Sustainability Report that illustrates Haier Europe’s holistic approach to sustainability, with investments in renewable energy and waste reduction, together with the progressive development of sustainable innovations across all product lines.

Operational excellence: building a sustainable business ecosystem

  • Energy: In 2024, Haier Europe reduced total energy consumption by 12% compared to 2023, reflecting the success of ongoing efficiency initiatives. The company achieved 45% renewable energy usage in 2024 through solar installations and Power Purchase Agreements.
  • Waste & Water: Haier Europe surpassed its waste recovery target, reaching a 98% recovery rate at production sites, and achieved a further 6% reduction in water consumption year-on-year—amounting to a 60% decrease starting in 2020.
  • Certifications: The company obtained the International Renewable Energy Certificate (I-REC) for its Turkish operations and FSC Chain of Custody certification for responsible sourcing of forest-based materials.

Empowering households with next-generation sustainable solutions

Haier Europe’s approach to sustainability is not confined to its factories or supply chain. It is most visible in the everyday lives of millions of European households that benefit from smarter, greener technologies designed to reduce energy use, cut waste, and extend product life.

  • Washing: 100% of Haier-branded washing machines are now A-class, with advanced features such as AI-driven auto-dosing, heat pump inverters, and Direct Motion Motor technology for increased durability and lower consumption. Candy ranges have also seen significant energy upgrades.
  • Refrigeration: The “More than A class” range exceeds regulatory standards, with advanced preservation technologies that keep food fresh up to 99% and help reduce food waste by up to 65 kg per year per household.
  • Cooking & Built-in: The 2024 portfolio features A++ connected ovens with adaptive learning, No Preheat Technology (saving up to 25% energy), and multi-level cooking (reducing energy use by up to 40%). Induction hobs with integrated hoods and power management features optimize energy use.
  • Small Domestic Appliances: The Hoover HFX handstick vacuum features a 40% efficiency improvement and a 5-year warranty. The Series 5 Air Fryer and Series 7 Kettle are designed for maximum energy savings and durability, with plastic-free packaging and full integration with the hOn app.

Circularity, Digital Empowerment, and Partnerships

  • Circularity: Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) are conducted on all major product categories to guide eco-design and emission reduction. 95% of products achieve high repairability scores, and refurbishment programs are expanding, especially in France.
  • Packaging: The “Supernova” project has eliminated plastics and EPS, introducing fully cardboard packaging across product lines.
  • Digital Empowerment: The hOn app, now used by over 3.4 million households, enables users to monitor and optimize energy and water consumption, schedule appliances for off-peak or renewable energy times, and access preventive maintenance alerts.
  • Partnerships: Haier Europe is working with energy providers (including Tate, Ostrom, and Edison Energia) to integrate the hOn platform with their systems and is collaborating with a major Italian utility provider on a nationwide initiative to encourage the transition from gas to induction cooking.

With the announcement of its new 2030 SBTi commitment, Haier Europe is raising the bar for climate action—accelerating its decarbonization journey and continuing to design the new era of living for households across Europe.
